25 Years ASCOBANS: The Secretariat’s History

The ASCOBANS Secretariat, today located in Bonn, Germany, acts as the coordinating body of the Agreement. Its function is to facilitate cooperation among its Parties and the many stakeholders engaged in whale, dolphin and porpoise conservation. One of its roles is to organize events such as the Meeting of Parties (MOP), where progress is reviewed and a work plan for the next triennium is agreed. The Secretariat also plays an important role in awareness-raising and in providing advice and support to the Parties and other stakeholders, assisting them in the implementation of the agreement.
