Development of a fully costed proposal for a web-accessed database for cetacean stranding and necropsy data in the ASCOBANS region

ASCOBANS/AC19/Doc.6-05 (2012) contains a project report, which undertook a feasibility study for a web-accessed database for marine mammal strandings and necropsy data.  Interest by stranding networks across the ASCOBANS region was high.  In Resolution 7.4, Parties call for the establishment and long-term support of such a database.  As a first step, a technical, fully costed proposal for the database needs to be developed.

Activities carried out:

  • Discussion and liaison with European stranding networks in the ASCOBANS region.
  • Development of a fully costed proposal for the delivery of a web-accessed database, designed to periodically capture and display data on strandings and necropsies carried out in the ASCOBANS region.

Final report is available at ASCOBANS/AC23/Inf.9.1a.
