A Great Day for Marine Wildlife!

Today, the 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CMS (COP11) concluded in Quito, Ecuador. After a week of intense deliberations and negotiations, the Parties to CMS passed a large number of resolutions, taking bold steps forward for the conservation of marine, terrestrial and avian migratory species.

21st Advisory Committee Meeting Tackles Bycatch, the No. 1 Threat for Small Cetaceans

Gothenburg/Bonn – The ASCOBANS Advisory Committee, a body set up to provide advice and information to Party States on the conservation and management of small cetaceans, convened its 21st meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 29 September to 1 October 2014. The day before, on 28 September, the North Sea Group – a steering group for the Conservation Plan for the Harbour Porpoise in the North Sea – held its 4th meeting.

CMS Scientific Council Paves the Way for CMS COP11

The Scientific Council of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) has set major landmarks at its 18th Meeting held in Bonn from 1-3 July. The Scientific Council advises on the implementation of the Convention and identifies important issues to be brought to the attention of the Conference of the Parties (COP) which is the main decision-making body of CMS.

CMS Scientific Council Meets in Bonn to Set Course for CMS COP11

The 18th Meeting of the Scientific Council to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is meeting 1-3 July 2014 at the United Nations Premises in Bonn, Germany. The meeting brings together more than 80 experts from 50 countries including appointed experts covering specific threats, taxa, geographic regions or particular areas of interest to the Convention.

Meet Bubbles – Spokesporpoise for the Last Few Hundred Baltic Harbour Porpoises

The mascot for the ASCOBANS Kids website, a little cartoon harbour porpoise, now has a name, Bubbles. It was suggested by Baleigh from Aberdeen, UKwho was one of many participants in the naming competition announced on the website in March, which received entries from a number of European countries and Canada.
